Carmona was previously a settlement identified as Latag, which was annexed for the city of Silang upon the latter's generation in 1595. The origins of its title are unknown. In 1856, the settlement's inhabitants demanded the conversion of Latag into a city, spearheaded by Tiburcio Purificacion.
